Mel Pardue

diventa coltellinaio a tempo pieno.

Mel Pardue

He began making his first knives in 1957. Most were made from old cross-cut saw blades. They were fixed blade hunting knives.
At that time he was working for an engineering firm in Mobile, AL he continued for about 11 years to make knives in his part time, then in 1968 he was offered a job in Tampa, FL. Where he remains until 1973. Here he builds a house with an adjoining knife workshop at the back where he can devote time to the manufacture of knives and have more of the equipment necessary for his activity, which he will spend a little full time. At the moment the knifemaker activity remains part-time until he meets Frank Centrtofante, a well-known
cutler of that time (we all know the importance of Centofante in modern cutlery). Pardue and Centofante become friends and Centofante encourages and invites Mell to join the American Knifemakers’ Guild where in 1974 he joins it and in the following years Centofante follows for the trial period encouraging and helping him to perfect the technique.
Pardue will write: “There is no way I can repay Frank for
all the help and encouragement he has me. “
In 1976 he passed the Guild exams and became a voting member (voting member
In 1978 he quit his engineering job and moved to Repton, Al. E
becomes a full-time cutler.

He has been doing knifemaking courses at the Batson Blade Symposium for over 20 years.
During this time he also taught at the American Bladesmith Society (ABS) school.
In addition to these activities he held teaching courses in his laboratory in Repton for new cutlers.
Of his forty years of activity we can say that Pardue is considered one of the pioneers of the “tactical” personalized knife.
Mel was the first to create collaborative activities between the custom world and industrial cutlery. After him many cutlers
